2023 Planning With Human Design

Too many of us skip over the most important phase of planning ahead: alignment.

We think that if we just build our business to look like A, then we’ll achieve B. So, we pick a magic number, reverse engineer it, and “power through” until we achieve it.

Then, guess what? We still don’t feel good.

Prioritizing your alignment looks like checking in with…

  • yourself, your energy, your emotions, your cycles

  • your vision for your life, relationships, business, health—all of it

  • every aspect of your business and seeing if they still align: team, offering, strategy, etc.

There’s an opportunity to go really deep here and ask big questions. On the other side, you’ll find the juiciest, most liberating, and empowering self-trust and soul alignment.

Isn’t that what you ultimately want?

Reflect & Reevaluate

I’m in the space of doing 2023 Planning, and I’m here to talk about this shift that I’m sensing.

We’ve had a lot of shifts in the last several years, especially with the pandemic. There has been a collective shift, especially in this online business and coaching space.

I’ve had a few conversations with Manifestors recently that were about being ready to plan for the next year, yet feeling called to really go inward. I really feel that. I was in this space to start planning, but I’m feeling called to go inward.

I’m not an astrologer, but I’ve been reading a lot about Mars Retrograde, and it has made me think that now is such a great time to reflect on the past year, or maybe even more prior to that.

To reflect and reevaluate where I’m at right now. Is this where I want to be? Am I still connected to the goals that I had for my future? Is the way I’m running my business right now actually aligned with my energy? Do I feel like I’m in integrity with the version of myself that I am right now?

I think a lot of us have gone through so much transformation in the past couple of years. We’re being called to embody these transformations in new ways.

You may have thought that you knew what you wanted for the next year, but now maybe you don’t.

You’ve worked to get where you are in your business, and have achieved a lot of your goals, but maybe something still feels off. You may feel like things could feel better.

My intention for you is to feel like you’re looking at all of the different clues that are available to you, to figure out what might be out of alignment, and create a plan of how to bring I back into alignment.

Get ready for a lot of personal examples, since I am a Manifestor with a 3/1 profile.

I feel a big shift coming in my business (and in my life, but more on that when I’m ready to share). I am in this space of envisioning that shift, and planning that.

I’m basically starting to use the processes that I’ve developed for my clients over the last few years and now apply them to myself and my own business. It feels so fun for me to be testing out all of my own work on myself, in this really big, new way.

Energetic Inventory

Before you even sit down to plan for anything, the first thing I highly recommend doing is an Energetic Inventory.

If you’re a student of mine who’s a Generator or Manifesting Generator, you’ve probably heard me talk about this before. It’s one thing that I have them do when they work with me. But really, anyone can do it.

Basically, you’ll get a little journal, and ideally for two weeks, you track how you’re spending your time and energy.

This will help you do two things.

One, it helps you really tune into your energy and your intentions throughout the day, and throughout the week. It helps you bring more presence and awareness in.

Two, it brings a lot of clarity as to where you have been spending your energy. Energy is our most precious commodity. Being able to be aware of how you’re spending your energy, and making sure it’s in alignment with who you are and what you’re here to do is key. Plus, it helps bring into alignment the goals you want to achieve.

For a couple of weeks, jot down what you’re doing. Did you scroll on Instagram for two hours? Babe, write that down. Did you spend an hour going back and forth with emails to clients?

Take it a step further and make a note of how you felt.

How did you feel when you were doing that action? Did you dread it? Did you not want to do it? Did you push through it? Did it feel really fun and you lost track of time while you were doing it? How did it feel when you were doing it?

At the end of those two weeks, take some time out of your day to connect with you. Get quiet and create a little ritual to connect with yourself. Then, open up that list and read through all of the different ways that you spent your energy over the last two weeks. Go through every single item and tune in.

The reason I love to give this exercise to Generators and Manifesting Generators is because when they read that item, their body will have a response to it in the moment. It gives a clear indication of whether that thing is correct for them or not. Is this how you want to spend your energy or not? That is one of the most important questions for a Generator and Manifesting Generator to answer.

However, if you’re a non sacral being, like if you’re emotional for instance, you can still do this. You can look at your list and ask yourself these questions: How does this feel for me? Is this how I want to feel in my business from day-to-day?

You can also do this in every area of your life. Either way, take your Energetic Inventory so that you can have a clear picture of how your energy is best spent.

How the hell else will you get into alignment?!

Once you have a clearer picture of what drains your f*cking energy, you’ll be able to see where your energy leaks are. Do your Energetic Inventory so you can get to the point of planning around your optimal energy.

Holistic Life Vision

In business, there are common tendencies, like tunnel vision, to be achievement oriented, control freaks. A lot of these patterns have served us in different ways.

These patterns are coming from pressure, trauma responses, things you’re feeling in your environment, they’re conditioned behaviors. We can illuminate them and feel gratitude for the fact that they got you here, where you need to be. They help you build your business.

Personally, I’m in a space where I’m starting the deconditioning process. My business has a solid foundation where I have more freedom to try different things and this is the perfect time to figure out how I can add more of those things to my plans.

Before you set any goals, always look at your entire life.

Are things feeling in balance? Do things feel in harmony? Do you feel like your energy is being allocated to the most important parts of your life? Are your priorities straight? If there a discrepancies between how you want your life to look and how it’s looking, what is out of balance and how can we bring it back into balance?

These are the things that will be a huge part of your planning process and a part of how you set your goals. You’re not going to set goals unless they can help bring you back into balance with other things in your life.

To give you an example, I’m coming up on a time where I really need to be super present for my family and for my children. Holiday time, school vacation, all these things where I need to be present.

In the past couple of months, I’ve been in this Manifestor mode with work and for me, it’s hard for me to separate from that because I get hyperfixated on my business. In my Manifestor urge, it’s hard for me to see anything else.

So, I’ve been in this space of reflecting. Like okay, it’s time to transition. I need to reallocate my energy and take some of it away from this business and into being with my kids. How do I fill in the gaps there? What does that look like?

For instance, if I have to pull back from one-on-one clients, how can we balance that out with a different offering or revenue stream? How do we get everything done with me taking a step in another direction? I’m acknowledging that things are going to have to be moved around.

When you’re thinking about 2023, you have to take those things into consideration too.

Your kids birthdays, school vacations, family events, lunar cycle shenanigans like astrological transits, these should all be taken into account when you’re planning launches and goals in your business. These are all things to look at when you’re planning for the year.

How does your energy operate? Part of having your own business means having the freedom to schedule the business around your life, right? So do that.

Consider your energy and your life before even trying to create goals for your business.

Where You Might Feel Out Of Alignment By Profile Lines

Let’s talk about where your energy is being pulled through the lens of Human Design profile.

Profile Line 1

For example, if you feel like your energy is being pulled somewhere with a one in your profile, and you are feeling like something is missing, but you’re not sure where, the first thing I want to know is: What are you learning right now?

I have a 3/1 profile, and I know for me, if I’m feeling a bit stagnant or blah, it’s because I’m not learning anything new. The one is so curious and it wants to know things. It thrives going down the rabbit hole and having a hyperfixation on something.

So, if you have a one in your profile, and you don’t really have anything going on that you’re learning or fixated on, this is something to consider.

Profile Line 2

If you have a 2 in your profile, you need time alone, to just be with you.

Imagine you’re trying to run a business, you have kids, you have a spouse, you have other things going on, and you don’t have time for you. I’m going to tell you right now, shit’s going to feel out of alignment

You need to schedule in time for you.

Profile Line 3

Three’s like to try new things.

For example, if you’ve been offering the same programs in your business for a long time, you might be feeling like you need a change. That’s okay.

You’ll like to experiment with new things that you’ll take action on and be super involved with on the material plane.

For instance, I have a certification program and it doesn’t change. We run it twice a year and I love that. As a 1/3, that feels like a part of the foundation of my business. It feels solid so that I can try new things when I want, without feeling a lot of pressure because I know my foundation is stable.

If you’re a third line profile, and you haven’t switched things up or tried anything new, you’re going to feel out of alignment.

Profile Line 4

Things will feel off for you if you’re not feeling connected to a community or network.

If you don’t feel like you’re feeding off of the energy of relationships in your day-to-day, in your business, you’ll feel out of alignment.

Profile Line 5

When you’re in a situation where there aren’t any problems to solve, maybe you’re not using your skills to the best of your ability or you’re not allowing yourself to be fully seen and heard as a leader, you’ll feel out of alignment.

It might be that you’re being called into being the leader in your business. And if you don’t answer that call, things might feel a little off.

Profile Line 6

Basically, you’re going to be like a profile line 3 until you’re 30ish. That’s your first phase of life.

If you’re out of that first phase, yet you’re still overly involved in your business life on the material plane, you’re going to feel a little bit off.

If you’re constantly in the thick of things in your business as a six, you’re going to feel like you want a bit of separation.

This is just a quick example of how you can see where you’re out of alignment by looking at one element of your Human Design.

Your Energy By Human Design Type

Another way to look at how your energy actually works is to think about your Human Design type.

Recently, I was having a conversation in Instagram DM’s with another emotional Manifestor. She has an offering that is a full year and she shows up for two days, every week. All yeah, she shows up live. She’s in a space of re-imagining this now.

As a fellow emotional Manifestor, I was wondering if she struggled with the longer term container for coaching. Not to say that as an emotional Manifestor you can’t have a long-term container. It’s just that you need to be super aware of how your energy works and what you’re okay with.

For example, I know that there are going to be times of the year where I need a significant break from showing up live. I need the time off, typically a couple of times out of the year.

Usually around June, I’m not launching anything or running any programs. And around the holidays in January, I want to be present with my family.

I know that my energy comes in these big bursts of energy for me to output. I can’t always predict when that’s going to happen. So, I can create this loose plan. I can make sure that the foundation of my business is set so that I can work like a machine (essentially like a Generator). Then, I can be in my Manifestor creation mode. I can be the visionary and open to these urges, visions, and ideas that flow in.

You need to set foundations in your business around your energy.

Don’t try to force yourself to do things because you think that’s what’s going to be successful. That’s what a lot of us do because we doubt our inner wisdom.

For me, I trust myself. I trust my inner wisdom to do the right thing for me. I know that a lot of times the right thing for me is the hard thing. Sometimes, I think to myself that I don’t want to do the hard thing, so I try to pick something I perceive to be easier instead. But, my inner wisdom always calls for what is right for me.

It’s challenging. Making the decisions that are super aligned for you is not always easy. Creating your business around how your energy works is really what gives you freedom to feel aligned.

The positive reinforcement will come from that over time. The feeling of being so assured and confidence and free because you know you’re making the best decision that you possibly can in the moment… It feels so right and you deeply trust yourself… Nothing is better than that feeling.

“I can’t seem to plan.”

We got a question that I’d love to answer: “How does a 3/5 emotional Manifestor feel motivated and plan?”

Well, you’re at the mercy of your moods to some degree.

I don’t have your full chart to give specific guidance, but as far as planning goes, you need to know your strengths and your weaknesses. What is it about planning that you’re not good at?

There are so many things that go into planning. Are you actually lacking the skill to strategize and create a plan that’s going to get you closer to your goals? Or are you lacking clarity about what your goals actually are? Have you defined success for yourself?

There’s so many questions to ponder when it comes to planning. To say that you can’t seem to plan makes me wonder if there is something that is keeping you from planning. Figure that out first.

2023 Planning

Let’s talk about what it looks like to plan.

Schedule some time, like actually put it in your schedule, to chill, relax, play, and receive insights. Be with yourself. Get closer to you. Connect with that inner guidance (here are some meditations to help).

When you feel like you have to do the laundry or get some chores done, stop. Release the pressure and bring yourself back to yourself. Tell yourself NO and that being with yourself is the only place you have to be. That is the only thing you have to be doing.

Schedule that time for yourself into your weeks. Take a day where you’re not seeing clients and you’re spending time being with you. Do this a couple of times before the end of the year because that’s what will help you gain clarity.

During this time with yourself, reflect on all of the numbers. If you don’t know your numbers, this will be a really good time to learn about it. Reflect on what’s going out and what’s coming in. Are you getting closer to your vision? Is your business helping you get closer to your vision for your life? What does that mean to you?

Spend the time getting clear on what that means to you and what your answer to those questions are right now. Really define success for yourself.

Before we plan and set goals, we have to know what success is. Success to a Manifesting Generator is going to feel really different from success to a Projector or a Manifestor.

Success to me is feeling free and at peace to create on where my energy and urges want to take me. In order for me to create that for myself, the number one thing that I have to do is create a solid foundation for my business with systems and processes, and have a really badass team so that it can run smoothly.

While I have more freedom, I can show up to do things like impromptu lives—like this one—where I’m teaching and sharing my energy and knowledge. I’m not constantly grinding or doing all the things and I’m able to provide for me and my kids. That’s a huge part of my vision for success.

I started by asking myself: How do I create that?

You have to make sure that you can do all the things you need to do, take care of your health and wellness the way you want to, and you can’t just sit in this space of considering just how much money you want to be making in your business. You can’t only consider how many clients or media features you want this month. Those are cool goals to set, but there’s a why behind them. Sit with that first.

Many of us are in this space right now where we have the room to reevaluate and reflect on what those things are, and what that vision is for our lives, our relationships, our parenting, our home life, our health and wellness. And yes, our business is what helps us create that for our lives.

Get clear on what you want for your life first, and then set your business goals. Decide on the things after getting clear on your why.

What are the offerings that are aligned for you? If you’re only doing one-on-one right now, but you have collective circuitry, are you feeling a disconnect? Perhaps it’s time to offer group classes, or a course.

Sit with yourself.

Are you doing the day-to-day things that you want to be doing in your business? Are you creating the life that you want to create through your business—with the help of your business?

If you don’t start there first, then you’ll end up setting allll of these goals that are not actually aligned with the life you want to live.

Then, when you achieve those goals, you may see success by those standards. But, it may not feel successful. Success is not just how much money you’re making or how many clients you have.

For 2023 planning, it’s so important for you to go through this reflection process. Reflect on your holistic life vision, how your energy operates, where you’re feeling misaligned, and then sit with your why before you create the plan and give yourself some structure for the New Year.

If the plan feels too rigid for you, remember that it’s fine to not have a super structured plan. But, you need to have something. In order to feel free and to move and be creative within your plan, you need to have some container holding you in.

Like, I’m a creative/artist archetype with the way I operate in my business. I’m very much like, “here’s what we’re doing,” and it’s a bit erratic and chaotic (I won’t lie to you). I’m learning to love myself through this structure I’ve created in my life.

So, when I’m planning, I make sure to have something steady that can hold together the backbone of my business. Then, when I have some vision or urge, I can hop on Voxer with the team and tell them what’s coming.

We have the foundation, so that I can be free. I can be free to try different things out, have a vision, change my mind, and be more in flow. But, if I was in this flow-y energy all of the time without any structure, without any boundaries, without any plan or intention, I wouldn’t get anything done.

We need both the structure and the flow. We need some sort of stability, otherwise, we’re building on quicksand.

You can build your business from the feminine only. Some people say they run their business completely from that receptive mode. But, behind the scenes of any successful business, there are strategies and structures in place. There has to be. Otherwise, you don’t feel free to completely relax and be in receptive mode.

Keep that in mind when you’re planning. You don’t want to over plan because you want to leave yourself space to connect with how you’re feeling in the moment, to make sure that it still feels good, and still feels right. You’re still able to be free and creative and go with your energy.

Don’t make it so rigid. Make sure that you have something to ground you. Ground into your vision and awareness of who you really are. When you’re so clear and confident in who you really are, all of this becomes easier.

Plus, you can infuse everything with your intentional energy. You know what you’re creating, you know what your vision is. Every single thing that you’re putting into place in your business and in your life, is intentionally there to help you get closer to that vision, to help you get closer to who you truly are authentically.

I do this work with the entrepreneurs I work with, who want to reflect on their businesses and where things don’t feel aligned. We work together to see how to move forward and create a plan that feels solid, but also gives you freedom to go with your energy.
