Rewrite Your Story, Rewire Your Cells: A Conversation with Dr. Karen Curry Parker

What If Your Body Is Listening to the Stories You Tell?

You’ve probably heard me say before that your Human Design chart tells a story — one that reveals not just your alignment, but also where you’ve been living out resistance.

In this week’s episode of Under the Surface, I had the incredible honor of sitting down with Dr. Karen Curry Parker, best-selling author of Quantum Wellness and creator of Quantum Human Design, to explore exactly that: how our narratives shape our biology, our health, and our ability to thrive.

This conversation was one of those soul-expanding, science-meets-spirit dialogues that stays with you. We talked about everything from telomeres and trauma to storytelling and Human Design — and how the stories we tell ourselves literally become the chemistry in our bodies.

Highlights from Our Conversation

  • Your story programs your cells. Karen shared the results of her research showing that recounting disempowering stories lowers immune response (measured through IgA levels) — while rewriting those stories raises them.

  • Optimists literally live longer. Studies show that people who tell hopeful stories have longer telomeres — the end caps of our DNA that affect aging and longevity.

  • The brain speaks in metaphor. Storytelling bypasses the logical, skeptical part of the brain and opens up new neurological pathways for healing and possibility.

  • Human Design as midwifery. Karen views her work as “midwifing the authentic self,” using Human Design as a roadmap to wellness, self-worth, and self-trust.

  • Your Strategy + Authority are prescriptions. More than rules to follow, they’re pathways for coming back into your body’s wisdom — which is where real healing begins.

My Biggest Takeaway

What struck me most about this conversation was Karen’s perspective on how changing your story changes your biology.

So many of us have lived for years in stories that keep us small… stories that say we’re not worthy, not ready, not safe to be who we truly are. But our bodies are listening. Every thought and emotion sends a signal to our cells, reinforcing the narrative we believe.

When you begin to live in alignment with your design, you’re not just changing your mindset, you’re recalibrating your entire system.
